An Isle of Wight hotel and holiday park are among the medallists at the Beautiful South Tourism Awards.

The ceremony, at Brighton's The Grand, saw 75 businesses and organisations compete for accolades last night (Tuesday).

They received either gold, silver or bronze awards.

The Isle of Wight Walking Festival picked up gold in the tourism event or festival of the year category.

Amy Summers, Sustainable Travel, Trade and Exhibitions manager at Visit Isle of Wight, said: "It’s a huge honour to be a finalist in the Beautiful South Awards, but to go on and win the Gold Award for the best Tourism Event or Festival of the Year in the South East is a fantastic achievement."

Whitecliff Bay, in Bembridge, run by Away Resorts, claimed bronze in the holiday park of the year category.

While it was a double celebration for Ventnor's Royal Hotel, which won silver and bronze for restaurant of the year and large hotel, respectively.

In Shanklin, Art Deco House took home silver for self catering accommodation of the year.

Speaking before the event, Fran Downton, chief executive of Tourism South East, said: "A huge congratulations to all our finalists. 

"All have been rewarded for achieving the very highest standards."

Some of the winning businesses will have the opportunity to represent the South East at the National VisitEngland Awards, next year.
