A VAN driver from the Isle of Wight was arrested on suspicion of alcohol and drug-related offences after he was caught speeding past officers without his lights on.

Police on patrol in Ventnor pulled over a white van in Mitchell Avenue at 1.20am this morning (Sunday).

A 33-year-old man from Ventnor was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink and possessing a controlled drug of Class B, a Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson confirmed. 

He remains in custody at this time.

"This van caught our attention after it shot past us without any lights on," an Island police officer posted on social media.

"The vehicle was stopped and the driver was arrested."
