A new father has been banned from driving after he was caught riding three times over the drug limit on his motorbike on the Isle of Wight.

Joshua Rotondo, of Preston Close, Ryde, pleaded guilty to drug driving at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 24.

Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said the 21-year-old was stopped by police on his motorcycle on High Park Road in Ryde.

Police officers had initially pulled Rotondo over due to his tinted visor, but his mannerisms led to them believing he was under the influence, said Ms Stone.

The prosecution told the court a blood test revealed Rotondo was three times over the drug drive limit, testing positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a derivative of cannabis.

Jim Osborne, defending, said there was no evidence of poor driving before the traffic stop, and his client was fully cooperative with police and ‘deeply remorseful’.

Mr Osborne said Rotondo has recently become a father and stopped smoking following the birth of his daughter, but relapsed after his relationship with his partner broke down.

Magistrates disqualified Rotondo for 12 months and ordered him to pay a £276 fine, a £110 surcharge and £85 in costs.
