An Isle of Wight woman says she is living a "childhood dream" after her and her colleagues' work on Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, saw them nominated for a prestigious Emmy Award.

Hannah Eccleston, from Carisbrooke, is one of seven make-up artists up for Outstanding Period And/Or Character Makeup (Non-Prosthetic) for episode, We Light The Way.

Hannah, 45, is listed as a Key Make-Up Artist and will be heading to the glitzy ceremony in LA in January.

It is a career high for the mother-of-two, who grew up in Shorwell.

She told the County Press: "Working in the arts industry is something I've always wanted to do.

"At school I was sort of warned away because it's not a great way to earn a living."

Thankfully, she did not heed that advice and went on to train at the London College of Fashion.

She then worked, on and off, for free for around four years, to gain experience and make contacts in the industry.

In 2005, she landed her big break on movie Apocalypto, directed by Mel Gibson.

Over the years she has worked on many TV shows and films, including Game of Thrones, Doc Martin, X-Men: First Class and Maleficent 2.

HBO series House of the Dragon came calling in 2021 and Hannah helped with the make-up for actor Paddy Considine, who played King Viserys.

She said his character was particularly challenging because he aged as the season went on. The first time she did his make-up for episode eight, she said it took four hours.

"It was a real collaboration. There was so many people involved. It was huge", she said.

As well as Paddy, some of Hannah's favourite actors she has worked with include Martin Clunes, Jennifer Lawrence and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

She said she is "very excited" for the awards in January and will be taking her mum and sister: "They deserve it because through my desperately trying to become a make-up artist my mum put up with me baking foam latex in her kitchen which absolutely stinks and my sister put up with me borrowing her car!"

Filming for season two of House of the Dragon, which Hannah also worked on, has now wrapped. She said she would "love" to do a third season.

She is also "particularly excited" about plans for an the Isle of Wight film studio in East Cowes.

"My dream would be for that to open and do a nice show on the Island and be at home", she said.

The Emmy Awards take place on January 15.
