A TEENAGER was arrested in Newport town centre today on suspicion of taking away a child without consent.
Police officers pulled up at St Thomas's Square in Newport at around 2.10pm and raced across the square to arrest to a man, who was carrying some bags.
They took him into custody, where he remains this evening.
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: "Officers arrested a 19-year-old man from Sandown on suspicion of taking away a child without lawful custody and burglary."
