"We will cherish the memories", a popular Isle of Wight restaurant has said, as it announces its indefinite closure.

Thai Mukda, on Shanklin High Street, has confirmed it has taken the 'biggest decision' to shut.

A statement thanked customers for their support 'through our highs and lows'.

In it, the family-run Thai restaurant said: "we would like to give our greatest gratitude to everyone who has supported us".

It added it was 'unsure' what the future holds.

The statement reads: "All these years, those who have supported us has become our friends and those who have worked with us has become our family, everyone has become precious to us and our experience with you all will be cherished in our memories.

"Once again we are so grateful to everyone's support over the many years we have opened and hopefully we will get to see everyone again soon."

Customers have taken to Facebook to wish the owners well for the future.

The announcement comes months after the restaurant was given a one-star food hygiene rating.

Following a visit in September, environmental health officers concluded hygiene standards there were 'unsatisfactory'.
