Firefighters from the Isle of Wight and Hampshire remain at the scene of a house fire that completely destroyed a home in Brading overnight.

A man aged 60 was transported to Salisbury hospital with burns, although his condition is stable, the fire service said, after the blaze on New Road.

The road remains closed, between Station Road and Yarbridge and motorists should avoid the area.

The fumes from the incident are still in the air and crews are still checking for hotspots.

It came within an hour of a fire that destroyed a barn in Bowcombe.

In Brading, a two-storey, semi-detached house was completely destroyed and the fire spread to the adjoining roof.

Four main jets, two hydrants, and one aerial ladder platform were used, said Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

Gas engineers have been on scene and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is also in attendance.
