Temporary traffic lights which have led to long delays for Isle of Wight drivers in and around Westridge in Ryde could be removed later today (Wednesday).

They were put in place, at Westridge Cross, after the main set of lights were damaged by a vehicle.

Island Roads said they were 'integral' to the overall junction and it was therefore deemed safer to install temporary lights, pending repair.

The temporary lights have seen long delays for drivers. At times, queues of traffic have stretched back as far as the Busy Bee roundabout.

Island Roads said the end is in sight, however.

A spokesperson confirmed the necessary repairs are due to be made tonight.

They said: "It should take no more than several hours after which we hope to remove the temporary lights."
