Fire officers have been called in as investigations into the death of a man an address in Ryde on the Isle of Wight continue.

As the County Press reported, a man in his 50s died at a property on Swanmore Road.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the death is being treated as unexplained.

Police were called yesterday (Tuesday) and remain at the property, near the junction with Ashey Road, today (Wednesday).

Fire officers have also been drafted in to assist with the safety of the building and ensure that the site is safe.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters are currently in attendance at Swanmore Road in Ryde to support our police colleagues with an incident. 

"Our teams were called to the scene at around 9:00 this morning."

It's understood efforts are being made to remove the man.

Police said his family have been informed.

The road was closed for a time.
