An Isle of Wight man will be sentenced in January, after he admitted stealing more than £250 worth of alcohol and household items during three separate visits to Tesco.

Guy Taylor, of Lowtherville Road, Ventnor, attended the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 17, and pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from a shop.

Ahead of the hearing, a warrant for Taylor’s arrest, issued by magistrates after he arrived four hours late for court, was withdrawn.

Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said the 33-year-old visited Tesco in Ventnor on September 12 and placed two bottles of alcohol, Pringles and other items, valued at £100, in a basket while he wandered around the shop before leaving without paying.

Ms Stone told the court Taylor returned to Tesco on October 12 and ran away after stealing alcohol, baby wipes and toilet roll, to the value of £84.

On October 14, he stole more items, valued at £69.

Nick Muir, defending, said his client suffers with mental health, drink and drug issues.

Taylor was recently the victim of a burglary, Mr Muir told the court.

Magistrates ordered an all-options pre-sentence report, ahead of sentencing on January 12.
