A woman's smoke cost her dear when she was fined for discarding her cigarette butt in the street.

On October 19, Dawn Dingley, 55, of Manor Gardens, Ryde, was found guilty in her absence of throwing down, dropping or otherwise depositing litter, namely a cigarette butt, in Above Bar Street, Southampton, on January 27. 

Section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied, and the matter was heard at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court.

She was fined £220 and must pay £100 costs and an £88 surcharge, making the total bill £408.
