An unsafe JCB vehicle on the back of a lorry travelling down an Isle of Wight High Street has led to a flatbed truck driver being 'educated' by police today (Thursday, November 2).

Police stopped a flatbed truck after spotting an insecure and dangerous load on its back down Newport High Street.

On board the vehicle was an 8,200kg JCB T4 IV Telehandler without the correct strapping, making it potentially dangerous to other road users and pedestrians.

The vehicle was prevented from being driven anywhere until the JCB had been correctly loaded and after police had imparted 'education' on the driver.

Yesterday (Wednesday), the roads policing unit assisted Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary's licencing department with the enforcement of taxis on the Island.

Several defects were discovered, and rectifications were made before police allowed them to be driven away.

Andy, from the Island's roads policing unit, said: "It's not all about speeding and the lack of insurance.

"Other important enforcement that we carry out on the roads policing unit is keeping our roads safe and the vehicles using the roads safe."
