As the Isle of Wight prepares for Storm Ciaran, emergency services and partner agencies have escalated their response status to a 'major incident'.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Resilience Forum (LRF) has warned of potential risk to life and damage to buildings tomorrow (Thursday).

The storm is forecast to bring heavy rain and winds of up to 85mph. 

From midnight tonight (Wednesday), the LRF, which is made up of the Isle of Wight Council and other agencies, is escalating its response.

It said all partner agencies are continuing to plan ahead with arrangements to respond to weather related emergencies during this period.

Those who live or work in what are likely to be the worst affected areas are advised to travel with care avoiding, as far as possible, coastal and wooded areas whilst winds are high.
