A GROUP of people representing a social mobility charity — including two of its figureheads — will be hitting the pain barrier by running 104km around the Isle of Wight.

The challenge aims to raise money and awareness for The Talent Tap, starting at 10pm on Friday, October 20.

The team comprises the charity’s CEO, Naomi Ambrose, its founder, Nick Cowley, plus others, including students.

They will run the equivalent of two-and-a-half marathons — in one go — over a route with 1,800m elevation.

The Talent Tap works with sixth formers on the Island.

"The Talent Tap is on a mission to highlight the struggles of disadvantaged young people in rural and coastal areas, including the Isle of Wight," a charity spokesperson said.

"Island’s young people — and their connectivity with the mainland — is the key to their future. Our organisation really understands this."

"For school age children in particular, the Isle of Wight is one of the worst places in the UK for social mobility, coming in at 522 out of 533 in the Social Mobility Index per constituency of England.

"As a result, the Isle of Wight has significantly fewer people employed in professional and managerial roles than the rest of the UK."

The team, who have set a £50,000 fundraising target, aims to finish by 5pm the next day.

They have raised almost £8,000 already.
