There were more than over 400 entries for the Brighstone and District Horticultural Society's Autumn Show and the event's committee said they were surprised - in a great way.

There were classes for fruit, vegetables, flowers, pot plants, beverages (wine, beer, liqueur), handicraft, cookery, floral art, photography and children.

For the third time this year, Bob Castle won Best Handicraft, for his exquisitely crafted wooden pen set. He also won the Fruit Cup.

The Dave Bartlett Shield went to James Kingswell, for the most points in show and he also lifted the Vegetable Cup.

Darren Everest was the winner of the Flower Cup, while Sheila Francis had the best pot plant.

Helen Cox lifted best exhibit in floral art classes and Andrew Bailey and Margaret McLaughlin tied for the most points in cookery classes.

Mike Roberts got the most points in the wine classes.

Iris Clarke was the Children's Cup winner.

Meanwhile, an apple press was set up in the grounds, allowing show-goers the opportunity to turn their apples into juice.
