CONCERNS for the well-being of a man saw an Isle of Wight RNLI crew carry out a search of the upper reaches of the River Medina on Monday night.

Cowes Lifeboat launched at around 10pm and, using its searchlight, combed the river, especially along the stretch bordering Seaclose Recreation Ground.

The crew remained on the water for two hours but nothing was found.

Other organisations involved in the search, along the shore, included police, Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams, and Wight SAR.

The 46-year-old man was eventually found safe by a police helicopter, walking up Stag Lane, near Newport.
