An appeal for witnesses has been issued by police following a serious crash in Cowes this morning (Thursday).

A pedestrian – a woman in her 40s – sustained a head injury which is potentially life-threatening, as the County Press reported.

She has been flown to Southampton General Hospital.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is keen to identify any witnesses, in particular two specific vehicle drivers who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it.

They are the rider of a red motorcycle and the driver of a white lorry.

Police were called at 8.07am with reports of a collision involving a Kia Picanto and a pedestrian on Newport Road, near to the Smithards Lane junction.

The road was closed for a time.
