An award-winning Isle of Wight hotel is to close on October 20.

Hillside in Ventnor is to change hands but according to a post on its website, while a new owner has been secured for the land and building, the accommodation and business is not being taken on as a going concern.

Instead, a series of open days are about to take place and items are being sold off.

Meanwhile, the owner has thanked guests and those who have supported him.

In 2022, the Mitchel Avenue-based place to eat and stay was one of just ten winners of a Good Hotel Guide César Award.

This 18th-century Grade II listed building boasts panoramic sea views, set in five acres.

Its current owners have also operated a restaurant and bistro.

According to Hillside House's website, open house days will be held on Saturday, October 7, Sunday, October 8, Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15, between midday and 3pm.

Hotel-related items and and art are also being sold off, including duvets, pillows, sofas, crockery and plants.

Owner, Gert Bach, said: "It has taken some consideration to pass it on, but Hillside House, with its stature, needs occasionally new caretakers to maintain and develop.

"A big thanks and humble gratefulness goes to the many guests and returning visitors, craftsmen, suppliers and not least team members who have made the last 15+ years an interesting journey to remember."

The statement said: "This with significant results, awards and friendships.

"A farewell visit will be welcome."

Mr Bach revealed plans for new ventures.
