AN ISLE of Wight woman flew into a rage and assaulted a shop worker after being  challenged at B&M.

Maddy Allan-Willshire, of Godric Road, Newport, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday, September 29.

The 19-year-old admitted common assault in Newport, on August 24.

Prosecutor, Liz Miller, said police were called to B&M and the victim was a staff member.

Her attention had been called to Allan-Willshire, who was described as intoxicated. Several unpaid items were retrieved from her bag and she was told to leave the store.

Ms Miller said she refused, and a 15-minute exchange culminated in Allan-Willshire – who was already on Shopwatch – lunging at the victim and swinging her arms.

The victim was shaken up and in tears after the incident.

Oscar Vincent, defending, said Allan-Willshire was a young person with a history of childhood trauma and other issues, and was in a fragile mental state.

She had been made homeless around the time of the offence but entered the store to purchase food and drink. She going to pay for the items and was not given the chance to go to the till before being challenged.

Mr Vincent said Allan-Willshire was repeatedly misgendered by the member of staff.

Allan-Willshire was made subject to a 12-month community order, to include a six-month alcohol treatment requirement, 30 rehabilitation days and 80 hours of unpaid work.

She was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £114 surcharge.
