AN ISLE of Wight man with a roofing business caught drug-driving a Ford Transit van, was fined and banned.

Liam Teal, of Great Preston Road, Ryde, admitted drug-driving in Newport on May 11.

Police on patrol on Medina Way saw Teal's van heading towards the town, having been tipped off he had been driving whilst under the influence of drugs.

Officers pulled Teal over in Manor Crescent, with the 36-year-old confessing he had smoked cannabis before they had said they would give him a roadside test, said Liz Miller, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

Teal tested positive for cannabis and was subsequently arrested.

At Newport Police Station, Teal provided a blood reading of 4.4 microgrammes of cannabis derivative, THC. The legal limit for the drug is 2.0.

For Teal, Jim Osborne said his client deeply regretted his actions, and that being banned from driving would have a significant effect on his roofing business as he was only driver, with two employees who rely on him for transport.

Teal had not driven dangerously, said Mr Osborne.

Teal was banned from driving for a year and fined £672, with a surcharge of £269 and £85 costs.
