An "amazing" set of coincidences has seen a 'precious' wedding ring, lost in the sea at an Isle of Wight beach a year ago, reunited with its owner.

Gillian Guggiari, from Solihull, was walking on the sands near her caravan at Sandhills, Bembridge last month (August) when she found what she thought was a ring pull.

On closer inspection, it turned out to be a silver wedding ring.

Hoping someone would come forward to claim it, Gillian handed it in at the nearby Wonky Cafe, which posted about the find on Facebook.

It wasn't long before a gentleman named Robin Sadler got in touch with owner, Pat, to say he thought it was his son-in-law, Daniel Ward's ring.

"He was able to describe it, sent her pictures, and said he was willing to wait a fortnight in case anyone else came forward", Gillian said.

"It turns out Daniel had lost it while swimming in the sea in August 2022, 12 months ago!"

Out of curiosity, Gillian took to Facebook to look up Robin and she saw that he, too, lives in Solihull.

Gillian was informed Daniel lived not far from there, in Studley.

"We go through Studley to get to our daughters almost every week.

"What a coincidence, he could have lived anywhere, and he lives virtually on our doorstep."

Gillian returned to the Island last week, and while here, she picked up the ring to save it from being posted.

She was able to reunite the ring with Daniel who was one "very happy and grateful owner".

"What an amazing set of coincidences and a wonderful outcome", she said.

Robin told the County Press: "It is amazing really to think it was found 12 months to the date my son-in-law lost it.

"It was just lucky I saw a post on the Facebook page. It's even more remarkable that Gillian who found the ring is from Solihull!"

The Wonky Cafe said: "What a testament to the power of social media and what an amazing result for the owner who, after over a year, must have thought he would never see his wedding ring again."

Proving just how 'precious' the ring really is, Gillian said she later did some research and found that it was made by the same company that made the Lord of the Rings ring.
