In Ryde's Nelson Street, the space known as The Depozitary, managed by Monkon Arts, is now also called Montage.

The launch of an exhibition of painting, photography, ceramics and mixed media in this modern and spacious gallery area happened recently.

A Sense of Place features work from artists professional and amateur in the Monkton Village Artists group - a community of creatives based in, or working in, the area known as Monkton Village.

Jenna Sabine of Ryde's Monkton Arts said: "Monkton Village Artists is a true community group - our youngest member is 11 and the oldest is in her 80s.

"Everyone in Monkton Village is welcome.

We thought this theme was appropriate for our first themed exhibition because 'Place' is the one thing which defines our group.

"So we looked at what a sense of place means to us and the work we create."

Artists participating in the exhibition include award-winning photographer Zoe Barker, who is showing a striking series of studies of objects taken in her characteristic detailed documentary style.

Self-taught Ryde digital artist Mia Sewell presents delightful and intriguing multi-layered images that bear close study - evoking the flutter of butterflies or the hallucinogenic effects of mushrooms.

The diverse range of artists in this exhibition complements the large, well-lit gallery, with each artist given plenty of space to allow the work to be seen and appreciated.

The exhibition is upstairs at Montage, 23 Nelson Street, and is open to the public from Wednesday to Friday from 12pm to 3pm, until October 1.
