The rain could not dampen the spirits of those who attended the second annual End of Summer Event at Ryde’s Smallbrook Stadium last Sunday (September 10).

The event raised around £1,000 for East Cowes-based charity MAD-Aid, and there was a full programme of entertainment throughout the day, including fire breathing by the Ace of Cades, dancing from Ali’s Fitness Fusion and plenty of live music.

There was also a bouncy castle, football skills from the Football Fun Factory, lots of fun and games, a children’s area, crafts, food and drink, a raffle and around 60 stalls to enjoy.

Visitors could see the Tardis and meet a Dalek from Doctor Who, as well as Chewbacca and a Stormtrooper from Star Wars and The Pirates of the Caribbean’s Captain Jack Sparrow.

Numerous other Island charities also had representatives at the event and raised money for their own local causes.

Organisers said that, despite the wet weather, they were pleased with the event’s turnout, and there are plans to hold the event again next year!
