Quick-thinking from rescue crews helped to prevent a 'potentially serious incident' in the Isle of Wight's Cowes Harbour.

Cowes RNLI rushed to the aid a 35-metre training vessel, which had reported losing propulsion in the boat-filled harbour, not long after leaving Shepards Marina yesterday (Sunday).

An approaching Red Funnel car ferry had to be warned of the problem.

The lifeboat, together with a harbour launch and other craft rushed to the vessel’s rescue.

They were able to nudge and tow it until it could be safely brought alongside the outside pontoon of Cowes Yacht Marina.

The lifeboat was returning from a safety patrol at the start of the Ocean Globe Race off Cowes when the alarm was raised.
