A new Isle of Wight literary event, featuring fantasy authors, takes place this weekend, at Quay Arts.

The Saturday, September 9 event has been organised by an employee from the Island's Waterstones branch, Sarah Wilkinson, who runs an international online book club, called Fantasy Fellowship.

She will co-host the Fantasy Fellowship in Conversation With... event, alongside award-winning Isle of Wight author, Kieran Larwood, who writes the Podkin One Ear series and Carnival of the Lost.

Among those due to take part will be Saara El Arifi, who wrote The Final Strife and The Battle Drum; the author behind the The Dragon Scales Trilogy, L.R. Lam; the number one Sunday Times bestselling author of Godkiller, Hannah Kaner; and Samantha Shannon, who wrote The Bone Killing series.

Kieran said: "We wanted to give Island-based fans the chance to meet authors and participate in the kind of event which normally happens in large scale conventions that are difficult and expensive to get to.

"We hope readers will love seeing their favourite authors in person, getting their books signed and discovering work by some of the top fantasy authors in the country."

Sarah, whose club has around 1,200 members, said: "I am a lifelong book reader and this is a dream, to put something like this on, on the Isle of Wight.

"Fantasy fiction always used to be looked down on, but things have changed."

The Fantasy Fellowship members share a love of fantasy and science fiction books, and want to spread the word about what an exciting and engaging genre it is.

Tickets for The Fantasy Fellowship In Conversation With... are on sale at Quay Arts.

Book lovers from as far afield as Scotland are travelling to the Island to take part.

Kieran said: "We really can’t wait to get everyone together at Quay Arts, and hopefully this will be the first of many events."

The pair have thanked Waterstones, for its support.
