Carnival-goers heading to Sandown this evening (Wednesday) are being told to avoid Brading.

The High Street, the main road through the village, is set to close from 7.30pm until 11pm.

It is to allow for Island Roads to carry out essential carriageway repairs.

The road will be closed between West Street and Cross Street.

Tonight's Illuminated Carnival procession gets underway, from Sandown, at 8.30pm.

It means those travelling from Ryde will have to divert.

Organisers are urging people to allow extra time for their journeys.

Tonight's carnival will see the introduction of a 'quiet zone' for those wanting to watch the parade without loud noise.

There is a designated a street where spectators wanting this option can see the procession.

Floats travelling along this road will be mindful, and turn the music and sound down when the procession passes through, organisers said.
