A swimmer in difficulty off Brighstone on the Isle of Wight prompted a response from rescue teams.

HM Coastguard was called to Brighstone Bay, near Grange Chine at around 8pm yesterday (Sunday).

Freshwater Independent Lifeboat launched two boats and Needles Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) was also alerted.

HM Coastguard told the County Press a swimmer had got into trouble.

They were able to self-recover, a spokesperson said.

No medical attention was required and Needles CRT performed a welfare check.

Freshwater Independent Lifeboat returned to station by 10pm.
