Traffic disruption is expected this morning (Friday) after a main route to and from Newport was shut unexpectedly.

Lushington Hill, Wootton has been closed for emergency works.

It's understood repairs to a burst water main is the cause of the closure.

Traffic heading towards Ryde is being diverted along Park Road.

While drivers coming to Newport are pointed towards Station Road.

There are also temporary traffic lights on Station Road, due to separate SGN works.

Southern Vectis buses are also diverting.

The bus firm said: "Due to this closure all route 9 buses will be diverting via Staplers Long Lane. We will update further once more is known.

"Closest stops between diversion are, Newport Bus Station & Wootton Cedars."

UPDATE:

Southern Vectis says the Route 4 is no longer running due to the closure, and anyone wishing to travel from East Cowes to Ryde must first board a Route 5 bus to Newport, then changeover to a Route 9 bus.
