Sight for Wight’s Short Story Writing Competition is back for 2023, with celebrity backing from Chesney Hawkes, Debbie McGee, Richard Cadell and RC Bridgestock.

Now in its 14th year, the competition features its usual age categories ranging from under eight to 18+.

At this year’s event, organisers are keen to honour Edana Minghella, an avid supporter of the competition who sadly passed away last year.

Chris Cane, competition organiser, said, “This is an exciting opportunity for budding Island writers to become published authors and also win some great prizes.

“This year’s theme is ‘The Future’, which will give our writers scope, creativity and a chance to let their imaginations run wild!”

Each category winner will have their story read out by one of this year’s celebrities, Richard Cadell, best known as the hand of puppet Sooty, international crime writers RC Bridgestock, Strictly Come Dancing finalist and wife and assistant to the late magician Paul Daniels and ‘The One and Only’ singer Chesney Hawkes.

The closing date for entries is Friday, November 3, with the award ceremony taking place on Friday, December 8.

The winning eight – 11 category story will then be published in the County Press along with details of all the winning entries.

Entry forms are available by email admin@iwsb.org.uk or in person from Waterstones, Sight for Wight, Dress for Less, Vectis Radio and the Riverside Centre, all based in Newport.
