A man and a woman, thrown into the sea when their sailing dinghy over-turned off the Isle of Wight, led to the launching of Cowes RNLI lifeboat this morning (Friday, August 18).

The incident happened near the North Ryde Middle Bouy, in the Solent between East Cowes and Lee-on-the-Solent.

On arrival, the lifeboat - which launched at 11.16am - found the couple had been picked up by a Southampton Harbour patrol launch.

The lifeboat managed to right the upturned 14ft dinghy and tow it to the Royal Victoria Yacht Club in Wootton Creek.

RNLI crews also took the couple from the patrol launch to the Club, where they were met by Bembridge coastguards.

Cowes lifeboat returned to the station at 12.50pm.
