An Isle of Wight healthcare assistant admitted drink driving after being caught trying to return home while almost three-times over the alcohol limit.
Kinga Kazmierczak, of Starks Close, Shorwell, pleaded guilty to drink driving at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 15.
Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said police were travelling down Carisbrooke Road on the evening of July 30 and spotted a white Mitsubishi Colt swerving, braking unnecessarily and driving slowly.
Ms Stone told the court officers pulled the vehicle over, and Kazmierczak was swaying and slurring her speech in the driver’s seat.
A roadside breathalyser test found the 26-year-old had 103 microgrammes of alcohol in her breath reading when the legal limit is 35.
Barry Arnett, defending, described the incident as an ‘unfortunate series of events’.
Mr Arnett said his client – a healthcare assistant – had been out drinking at Cowes Week with her sister and intended to return home in a taxi, but none were available.
She is thoroughly ashamed that she decided to drive home and is now prepared to cycle to work as a result, said Mr Arnett.
Magistrates handed Kazmierczak a 12-month community order, to include 120 hours of unpaid work, and disqualified her from driving for 25 months.
Kazmierczak must also pay a £114 surcharge and £85 in costs.
