An Isle of Wight man crashed his car into a roundabout, abandoned it and walked home after a boozy night out with his friends.
Louis Thorpe, 29, of Greenlands Road, East Cowes, admitted drink driving at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 15.
Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said a police patrol was flagged down at 11.40pm on May 17 by a member of the public, who reported an abandoned car at the Racecourse Roundabout.
Ms Stone said police discovered a grey Seat Ibiza left in the road at the entrance of Whippingham Road, and it was clear it had been in a collision with the roundabout, with skidmarks visible on the road.
Police searched for the owner, leading them to Thorpe’s home, where his mother told officers he had walked home and then went to St Mary’s Hospital.
A blood test found that Thorpe had 112 milligrammes of alcohol in 100ml of blood when the limit is 80.
Barry Arnett, defending, said Thorpe had gone out with friends and drank too much alcohol.
Thorpe suffered minor cuts to his knee and a chipped ankle bone, with his car written off.
Magistrates disqualified Thorpe for 14 months and ordered him to pay a £240 fine, a £96 surcharge and £85 costs.
