An Isle of Wight doctor will be signing his debut novel in Waterstones in Newport, this weekend.

Gos Jilani is the writer behind The Doctor from Bombay, which has received five star reviews, was July's Sunday Times book of the month.

Described as contemporary fiction with a love story at its heart, it has been called rich and vibrant.

The Doctor from Bombay tells the tale of Saj's arrival in England from Mumbai, formerly called Bombay, full of hopes and dreams.

He struggles to adapt to his new life's long working hours in the National Health Service and racial abuse.

But he meets nurse Lea, and must ultimately decide where his heart belongs.

Wootton-based Dr Jilani, who specialises in cosmetic work, has been working on the Isle of Wight for 20 years and is no stranger to branching out into the creative arts. He has performed on stage at both the Isle of Wight Festival and Glastonbury.

He will be at Waterstones on Newport High Street at 11am on Saturday, August 26.
