An Isle of Wight woman pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention after she was involved in a car crash in Newport last November.

Carol Buckett, of School Lane, Calbourne, attended the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 15.

Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said the 74-year-old was involved in a minor traffic collision at 8.50am on November 24, 2022.

The incident happened at Vittlefields Cross, described by Ms Stone as an ‘accident hotspot’, while Buckett was driving her black Citroen C1.

Ms Stone told the court Buckett pulled out slowly from Betty Haunt Lane, but another driver on Forest Road was travelling at 50mph towards her, and she could not stop her vehicle in time.

The driver of the other vehicle suffered whiplash and bruises.

Wendy Cook, defending, said Buckett was very, very shocked and distressed by the incident.

Mrs Cook explained a van had pulled away in front of her, and she could not remember anything after that and has since returned to driving after a lengthy time away from the wheel.

Magistrates added five points to Buckett’s licence and ordered her to pay a £138 fine, £85 in costs and a £55 surcharge.
