An Isle of Wight tech company, a world leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and pattern recognition, has expanded to America and Japan, and also has links to South Korea.

Shanklin's Innovative Physics develops cutting-edge technology solutions for the civil nuclear, homeland security and medical sectors.

Its HQ is at Landguard Manor in Shanklin, where 15 of its 20-strong team are based.

Now, after more than a decade of working in Japan, after Innovative Physics was commissioned to supply radiation detection equipment to help in the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear power station disaster, it has set up an official base in Tokyo.

In the USA, is has opened in Alexandria, Virginia.

It also has a new presence in Seoul, South Korea, with an aim to gather distributors, growing a new customer base.

Victoria Anderson Matthews, director of business development and administration, said: "It has been an incredible journey from our beginnings at Shanklin and we would like to thank all those who have helped our expansion into important new markets, culminating in the opening of these new offices.

"It really is an exciting time for the company and we are pleased to be flying the Isle of Wight’s flag on either side of the globe."
