Islanders are braced for a spell of warm weather after the Isle of Wight was included in a heat health alert.

Issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), in partnership with the Met Office, the yellow warning is in place for most of the country, including the South East.

It warns of a brief spell of warm weather today (Thursday), with maximum temperatures expected to hit the high 20s.

Islanders are told of muggy conditions overnight.

Tomorrow (Friday) is predicted to be much cooler in parts, but the far South East is likely to see thresholds breached, the alert says.

The UKHSA said: "Minor impacts are probable across the health and social care sector, including: increased use of health care services by the vulnerable population; increase in risk of mortality amongst vulnerable individuals and increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm. But not expected."

The Isle of Wight Met Service is forecasting highs of 25°C today, 23°C tomorrow and 21°C on Saturday, in some places on the Island.

To stay safe in the heat, the NHS recommends drinking plenty of fluids and to keep your living space cool.

Windows should be closed during the day and opened at night when the temperature outside has gone down, it said.

The alert came into force at midday today and runs until Saturday at 9am.
