A new playpark at a housing development on the Isle of Wight has been given the ‘thumbs up’ after the official opening in Newport.
St George’s Gate in Shide, Newport, had a special visit from the Island’s council for the official opening of the playpark, found within the Newport development.
At the opening ceremony, four-year-old Alex Cleary had the important job of cutting the ribbon and testing out all the equipment in the playpark and gave his professional ‘thumbs up’.
Alex’s dad and assistant site manager Tom said: “We’ve been building here on the Island for some time and to be able to include facilities like these means more local children like Alex will be able to enjoy them for many years to come.”
The official opening was attended by Isle of Wight Council leader Lora Peacey-Wilcox and chair of Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council Andrew Garratt.
Cllr Andrew Garratt said: “It was my pleasure to be at today’s opening of the playpark at St George’s Gate, which we know will be really popular with local families.”
Cllr Lora Peacey-Wilcox added: “It’s great to see more facilities like this become available, and we’d like to thank David Wilson Homes for inviting us along.”
The developer, David Wilson Homes, hopes the playpark will make a welcome addition to the site.
