Three days of exhilarating energy charged beach sports action were delivered by Wight Wave Beach Sports at their annual Championship Festival.

The popular event welcomed more than 218 beach sports teams with over 2,000 participants competing across soccer, netball, tennis and volleyball.

There were more than 552 matches played, as teams, players and coaches searched for the gold medals.

More than 650 medals were presented to winners and runners up of all ages and abilities with beach soccer being the main spectator sport across six pitches hosting 156 teams, from Under 7 boys and girls, across all age groups up to men’s and women’s championships.

Specials guests saw England international captains Aaron Clarke and Sarah Kempson recently back from international duty lead the presentations and present the youth trophies and medals.

They both competed in the prestigious Beach Soccer Super Cup, now in its 23rd year.

Luke Kerr, Wight Wave event director, said: "We’ve had so much great feedback about how many people had fun, children and adults smiling enjoying the sport either as spectators or as participants, this was our biggest championship event to date and it was a huge success.

"I’d like to give special mention to Ryde Town Council and our sponsors who we could not deliver the level of quality without."

He thanked his team, the officals, and charity partners the Isle of Wight Youth Trust.
