A Ryde woman was told by Isle of Wight magistrates to ‘get some trainers and start walking,’ as she was banned from driving for over three years, for drug driving.

Carly Percey, of Slade Road, pleaded guilty at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 25.

Liz Miller, prosecuting, said police saw a Vauxhall Corsa travelling on Morton Old Road at 11.35am, on March 27.

A police officer recognised Percey behind the wheel as a known cannabis user, court was told.

A roadside drugwipe came back positive and it was later confirmed Percey had 3.7ml/l of cannabis in her blood, when the limit is 2.

The 37-year-old has had two previous drug drive convictions.

In January 2023, she was found to have 17ml/l in her blood and was handed a 36-month driving disqualification.

Representing herself, Percey said she had not smoked cannabis for some time and was surprised the drugwipe came back positive.

Magistrates disqualified her for 40 months and she must also pay a £120 fine, £85 in costs and a £48 surcharge.
