An Isle of Wight organisation that represents patients has told the Isle of Wight County Press it is deeply concerned and saddened to hear about plans to closure Ryde's Argyll House.

The GP practice in Ryde has issued a notice of closure to health bosses and the news was shared on the surgery's website last week.

Reacting, Healthwatch said: "We know clinicians from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System (ICS) are working hard to support patients.

"We have offered to support commissioners to hold public meetings or drop-in sessions, where patients can go to ask questions and learn about what their options are. We will inform the public of the details of these meetings as soon as they have been arranged."

Argyll House Surgery cares for 'thousands of patients in Ryde, Wootton Bridge and the surrounding villages' and has been open for over 25 years.

Patients should 'do nothing' at the moment and have been told they will be kept informed. The surgery remains open.

Meanwhile, Ryde, Appley and Elmfield councillor, Michael Lilley, said he is horrified and appalled, adding he is trying to find out the reasons behind the decision.

Cllr Lilley previously wrote Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICB when plans to move Ryde Esplanade Surgery to the new West Acre Park development were announced.

I asked for clarification about need and for an impact assessment, he said.

At the time, the ICB confirmed the Esplanade Surgery was looking for a new site, but added a move was 'years away' and a consultation would need to be held.

In an email, Cllr Lilley said: "I am horrified to hear this surgery is to close, without any support information or consultation."

He has asked for the matter to be added to the agenda of the next health and adult social care policy and scrutiny committee meeting, in September.

At the weekend, Ryde North West coucillor, Phil Jordan, said the move was a 'deep concern.'
