BEING a one-time outfit, wedding dresses are often worn once then never again see the light of day.

Amid the current move towards sustainability within the fashion industry, this seems wasteful.

Thanks to Isle of Wight charity shops, brides can choose to wear pre-loved, and recycle it again afterwards.

Buying a pre-loved wedding dress will not only mean your dream dress will become a lot more affordable but it will save a beautiful dress from being sent to landfill.

Mountbatten recently had a beautiful wedding dress displayed in the window of its East Cowes charity shop.

A spokesperson for Mountbatten said: "We will always take in pre-loved wedding dresses and also sell them at our events.

"If you would like a pre-loved wedding dress we will nearly always have them, if not in our charity shops then they will be in our Mountbatten warehouse.”

Just pop into one of Mountbatten's shops to enquire.

At Friends of the Animals, they have a huge choice.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "We had many wedding dresses donated to us from a former shop in Newport.

"We currently have about 40 to 50 dresses, all in nearly brand new condition.”

The charity usually sells its dresses at prices between £60 to £130 each, when some of them previously had four figure price tags.

If you are looking for pre-loved mother of the bride outfits, evening dresses, bridesmaids' dresses or something other than the traditional wedding gown, it's worth popping into Dress for Less.

The shop is run by Sight for Wight and has a huge range of beautiful outfits, all in tip-top condition.

“Everything we have is different," a spokesperson said.

"We don't have wedding dresses but we do have beautiful mother of the bride outfits and evening dresses for bridesmaids.”

Amid the current cost of living crisis, and the move towards sustainable fashion, the Island's charity shops are the perfect starting point for buying your bridal outfits.
