It was more than ‘practically perfect’ when Newchurch Primary School pupils performed Mary Poppins!

A huge cast of 121 children in Key Stage Two took part the show to an audience of 320 people from the Newchurch community, across four performances.

Audiences were very impressed with the talent on show and the commitment of all involved, teachers said.

Head of school and music lead Louise Parkin said: “We were absolutely blown away by the commitment of the children, staff and our amazing volunteers.

"We thought last year’s production of the Lion King couldn’t be improved upon but we were wrong!

"The production, script and songs were intricate and we knew it would be a challenge for all involved to get to grips with the complexity of this play, which is adapted for secondary school aged children, but we are resilient and ambitious at Newchurch and we were absolutely delighted with the results.”

Executive headteacher Kirsty Howarth said: “This really highlights what we’re about – we may be a small school from a little village on a small Island, but we dream big and achieve great things.”

For many of the children, it has been the highlight of another busy and productive year at Newchurch.

Poppie, who played Winifred, said: "I loved The Lion King last year and this year, every moment of Mary Poppins has been brilliant.”

Henleigh in Year 3 said: "Out of all of the plays I’ve done in school like the Nativity and Christmas Carol concert, this has been my favourite. I loved learning all of the songs.”
