AN ISLE of Wight man who spat in the face of his former partner, “covering her entire face” in spittle, is due to be sentenced.

Kai Barnes, of Kinchington Road, Newport, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, July 11.

The 34-year-old admitted common assault, in Newport, on January 1.

Prosecutor, Ann Smout, told the court Barnes and his victim had previously been in a relationship.

She said the pair had been drinking at the Waverley public house, on New Year’s Eve, and an argument broke out.

Mrs Smout said Barnes spat in the victim’s face on two occasions – an unpleasant form of assault, which always carries the risk of infectious disease transmission.

The victim described the first instance of spittle as “covering her entire face”, and the court heard the relationship was well and truly over.

Amy Hosell, defending, said Barnes regretted his actions.

Barnes saw his case adjourned to August 11 so a pre-sentence report could be drawn up.

He was granted conditional bail until that date.
