Isle of Wight school closures due to Friday strike action

The ongoing dispute is centred around a fully funded teacher pay increase and fears surrounding the lack of school funding affecting resources for Island students.

Two days of action were scheduled for Wednesday (July 5), and today (Friday, July 7), with the National Education Union (NEU) saying it is ‘within Gillian Keegan’s [Secretary of State for Education] grasp for this action to be halted’.

The Island VI Form will remain open as normal.

Ryde Academy is open for all students although some of the their work may be delivered online.

Medina College is closed today for all pupils except Year 10.

The Bay CE School in Sandown's Secondary Site is closed to all students with the exception of students with an EHCP and specified vulnerable students who have previously been invited into school on strike days.

Cowes Enterprise College said: "As a result of the strikes, we will not have enough members of staff to safely open the academy to all students or be able to provide remote education.

"We will therefore just be open to students in Year 12 as well as those on the vulnerable register and the children of critical workers."

Carisbrooke College issued the following information to parents: On Friday the school site will be closed to students in Years 7, 8 and 9. Year 10 students are expected to attend. Year 8 who are booked on the trip to the Imperial War Museum that has been arranged, will continue as planned. Students in Year 7, 8, 9 are expected to log in to Google Classroom each lesson.
