WEDNESDAY marked the 75th anniversary of the National Health Service (NHS).

To celebrate the big occasion, the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, with the help of local companies donating generous prizes, held a free prize draw for all its staff members.

Among the Island businesses to chip in was Cake Delights – a family-run bakery based in Gurnard.

It was founded by Angela Stannett more than ten years ago, out of a passion for baking and wanting to design beautiful creations.

“There is nothing better than being asked to be part of someone's special day,” said Angela.

“I was honoured to be asked to make the NHS birthday cake.

“It was just amazing to see everyone's smiling faces when they came to collect their cake.

“I have so much respect for all the amazing staff.

“Thank you for letting me be part of your special day.”

Treating more than a million people a day in England, the NHS touches all of our lives.

Since it was founded in 1948 it has evolved and adapted to meet the needs of each generation.
