The Royal Isle of Wight County Show returns this weekend, promising something for everyone, from show gardens, trial bikes, sheep being sheared and cows being milked.

Along with the old favourites, this year’s County Show will include many new features, including the introduction of a dedicated Reading Area on the Village Green.

To make the area ‘extra special’ throughout the two days, a range of well-known people will be on hand to read to the children.

The creation of the Reading Area has been made possible with the support of Cowes’ Medina Publishing and Island Bell Tents, who will be stocking books with a countryside theme and providing the tent.

Isle of Wight County Press:

High Sheriff Dawn Haig-Thomas said: "I am delighted that literacy is part of the Royal Isle of Wight County Show this year.

“Please bring your children along for story time with one of our VIP readers. It can take just one book to ignite a passion for reading in a child, bringing a lifetime of pleasure."

Paul Armfield from Medina Publishing added: “We're delighted to be involved in this initiative. Reading is so essential for the very basics of modern life, from one-word signposts to wordy contracts.

“Children's books can be the colourful, joyous lures of excitement that make us want to read, and once you're hooked there's no turning back.”

This year’s Royal Isle of Wight County Show kicks off on Saturday, July 8.
