CAUGHT with a large and varied drugs stash set aside for use at the Isle of Wight Festival, a Northwood man faces the prospect of a lengthy period of probation.

Dylan Powell, of Wyatts Lane, admitted possession of 0.94g of cocaine, 0.37g of ecstasy, 6.06g of ketamine, 1.87g of cannabis, 0.89g of cannabis resin and diazepam, in Newport, on June 16.

Police stopped the 27-year-old on suspicion of drugs supply and carried out a search of his bag, finding a tub of cannabis, and wraps of ketamine and cocaine, said Lauren Stone, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 30.

Following Powell's arrest, police found ecstasy in his wallet, then during a search of his home address, officers discovered 110 diazepam tablets, a quantity in his bedroom and more in a medicine cabinet under his late grandmother's name.

Jobless Powell told the police the drugs seized were for his own personal use, which he intended to take at the Isle of Wight Festival, said Miss Stone.

He also conceded he was a fairly regular cocaine user and that he had no prescription for the diazepam.

Powell had previous convictions were in 2007 and 2010 for drugs offences.

For Powell, Jim Osborne said his client was fully co-operative with the police and deeply regretted having ever taken drugs — to the point he has self-referred to an inclusion programme to "get himself clean".

Mr Osborne explained Powell is a prolific drugs user who intended to use the cache of substances at the Isle of Wight Festival.

"He did have quite a lot of drugs on him, but they were purely for his own personal use. He also has alcohol issues," the bench was told.

Magistrates ordered a report on Powell with a view to handing him probation.

Powell was bailed to reappear for sentencing at the same venue on July 28.
