A SPANISH family who live on the Isle of Wight continue to dedicate their time and energy to supporting a cause close to their hearts — Mountbatten — by running the Copenhagen Marathon.

Last year, Teresa Leiva, a doctor with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, and her family — husband Javier and their two children, Marcos and Ana — did Walk the Wight and raised money for Mountbatten.

This year, The Family Marathoners, as they like to be known, decided to do something a little different this year.

They took on the Copenhagen Marathon, held on the same day as Walk the Wight.

The Leivas set themselves a target of £1,000. Currently, they have comfortably passed that figure, which stands at £1,489.

"Our 'marathon family' has been, apart from training for the Copenhagen Marathon, working tirelessly to fundraise for Mountbatten," said Teresa.

"Together, we conquered the marathon challenge with resounding success.

"My son Marcos achieved an impressive time of 4hrs 30mins, while Ana and I ran side-by-side, enjoying the lively atmosphere and drawing energy from the cheering crowds at every station.

"Javier, overwhelmed with emotion, crossed the finish line with a deep sense of accomplishment.

"We extend our sincerest gratitude to our community, whose overwhelming support and generosity allowed us to raise a substantial amount for Mountbatten.

"The impact of these funds will be felt by those in need, making a tangible difference in their lives.

"Although our marathon event has concluded, our commitment to supporting this worthy cause remains unwavering.

"Together, we can make a lasting difference."
