A pair of Isle of Wight-based British Saddleback pig breeders have been celebrating the success of their young champion boar this year.

David and Sharon Groves' January-born boar Dennis was victorious at the Royal Cornwall Show last month, winning both Champion Boar and Reserve Breed categories.

Dennis also came runner-up in the boar class at the Royal Bath and West Show.

The couple are dedicated to ensuring the family line of their Saddleback breed continues to thrive by wise breeding in the herd to avoid losing the rare breed line.

The young boar’s father, Dylan, was one of only three pigs left in the breed when the couple introduced him to the showing circuit four years ago.

Since then, he has gone on to claim the title of National Champion Boar two years on the trot!

David and Sharon are now turning their attention to competing against each other in next month’s Royal Isle of Wight Show (July 8 and 9).
