The Isle of Wight Classic Car Extravanganza, held on Ryde Esplanade, WILL go ahead this year, in memory of its founder - the late Vic Gallucci.

Well-known Islander and chairman of the Newport Carnival Committee, Paddy McHugh, will take the helm.

Paddy knows the event well having worked there with Vic previously.

A much-loved member of the Island community, Vic - who has also starred in TV show, The Bill - died last month (May).

Tributes poured in for him at the time, including from ex-cast members of the series, as well as many Islanders.

He was best known on the Island as being the founder of the annual Car Extravaganza, which sees vehicles from all over the UK and mainland Europe attending a two-day show.

Posting on Facebook, the event has now confirmed that the show would go on in his honour.

It said: "Bookings for the 2023 Classic Extravaganza will resume on Saturday, June 24.

"Paddy McHugh has stepped forward and taken the reigns for this year's event; the support team, council officials and mayor have all offered their full backing and we know Vic would be proud to see his efforts over the past two decades continue."

Vic's funeral will be held in Surrey on Friday, June 23.
